DANVILLE & MARTINSVILLE, VA (May 3, 2019) – Sovah Health recently announced that Chenise Blackwell (Sovah Health - Danville) and Brittany Collins (Sovah Health - Martinsville) have been recognized as its 2019 Mercy Award winners. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2001 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

Chenise Blackwell serves as the patient advocate in the patient relations department at Sovah Health - Danville. She has worked at the hospital for twenty years joining in March 1999. As the patient advocate, Blackwell is instrumental in helping the hospital provide high quality patient care by acting as a liasion between patients and Sovah Health's health care providers. She proactively rounds on patients and visitors during their stay and is committed to resolving concerns and complaints in an efficient, professional manner. Blackwell's influence extends beyond the hospital, where she is active in her church New Esthesus Missionary Baptist Church, volunteers her time with the sick and is an avid bowler. She lives in Danville with her husband Darryl and is the proud mother of three daughters and one son and has four grandchildren.
Brittany Collins, RN, BSN, ACM is a care coordinator in case management at Sovah Health - Martinsville. She joined Sovah Health - Martinsville in 2007 after graduating from nursing school at Patrick Henry Community College. Collins worked as a nurse in the medical/surgical and telemetry departments before moving to case management in 2011, where she develops, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care plans. Passionate about heart failure, Collins was instrumental in working with the MHC Coalition for Health & Wellness in securing a grant to better support heart failure patients manage their disease. She lives in Axton with her husband Jared and two girls Macy and Autumn. In her spare time, she loves to read, write, spend time with her family, and attend County Line Christian Church.
Each hospital winner, including Blackwell and Collins, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2019 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which all hospital winners are invited to attend.
