Creating a Treatment Plan
Once a cancer diagnosis has been confirmed, our cancer team confers to plan the best course of treamtent for the patient. This team includes pathologists, surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. Our physicians following the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) for diagnosis, staging and treatment. Treatment may involve surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, or a combination of these approaches.
The surgeons at Sovah Health - Martinsville have the extensive training, certifications, skills and experience required to deliver optimal outcomes. Our surgical team includes David Graham, MD; Kareem Hamdy, MD; and Scott O'Neil, MD.
In collaboration with surgery, pathology and radiation oncology, our medical oncology & hematology department provides initial diagnosis, planning and leading-edge tratment and post-treatment follow-up of patients with cancers or blood disorders. Our radiation oncology program offers compassionate, state-of-the-art cancer treatments from our board-certified radiation oncologist Nigel Goodchild, MD and specialized team of therapists. Using the 3D conformal, IMRT (itnensity modulated radiotherapy) and IGRT (image guided radiation therapy) the Varian linear accelerator targets tumors without harming the surrounding healthy tissue.
